It
was a dark and stormy night...
Well,
no, actually, it was a sunny afternoon in El Paso, Texas,
when I entered the world. From Texas to the suburbs of Philadelphia,
I led a fairly typical life in a suburban ranch house. A natural
tendency to ask "Yeah, says who?" when given any
directive or told that "this is how it is", I didn't
enjoy school too much, but I went to college (Penn State)
and painted, sculpted, and drank beer. When I got out of school,
I had no career plans per se, but ended up landing a horrible
job that did provide one good thing -- a chance to learn about
computers.
After
escaping that first job (with a little help), I moved into
the computer training field, and ran training centers for
two large computer resellers. After seeing how much money
the freelance trainers were making, I decided to leave my
job (that "Yeah, says who???" thing again...) and
become self-employed.
Since
then, I've been training people to use computers, writing
books about software and the web, and in 1992 formed my own
company, Limehat
& Company, which provides training
and web
development services. Since 1997, I've written and co-authored
more than 25 nationally-published books
on computers and software, and have created online and CD-based
training products, too. A new service we provide, which is
one I really enjoy, is photo and document retouching and restoration.
I especially love fixing vintage photos and documents, bringing
history back to life.
As for
my real life (not related to work), I met my husband, Robert
Fuller, in 1995, and we were married in 2003. We moved to
Lancaster,
Pennsylvania, in 2004, and live with our three cats, Calvin,
Daisy, and Willow (see their pictures below). We're still
trying to find the time to remove decades of wallpaper (Daisy
helps!) and to repaint -- after which we can completely unpack
all our stuff. We hope to have our 1880's Victorian restored
soon.
